The Power of the “Old Man, “the flesh, is unrelenting and extremely difficult to resist, especially concerning spiritual warfare.
Will power alone is insufficient: “…the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God…” (2 Cor. 10:4). The power to resist our inborn Adamic nature is proportional to the strength and consistency of our personal relationship with the Lord. “Abide in me, and I in you. (John 15:4)
Conflicting priorities: if the first thing you focus on in the morning is the internet or any other worldly distraction, it will suppress your desire to read the Word of God and spend time alone with Him and vice versa. The Word of God and worldly things are diametrically opposed.
The day’s first meal is considered the most important because it replenishes the glucose levels for the day. The same can be said of our morning time spent in God’s Word. The first thing you feed your mind sets the mood, attitude, and direction of your thought life for the day ahead. We get our spiritual nourishment from the Scriptures 1 Tim. 4:6 and Matt. 4:4. “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” (Col. 3:2) “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” (Prov.23:7).
The mind is the battlefield.
Once your mind has been influenced by earthly things (the things of the world), you have yielded to the flesh, resisted the Holy Spirit’s influence, and revealed your priorities.
“He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.” (Prov.25:28) If you don’t control your flesh, your flesh will control you.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Rom. 12:1-2)
“Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.” ( Apostle Paul 2 Tim.2:7)
