The Russian Connection
Magog = Leading Bible scholars say this is Russia and the republics of the former Soviet Union. The first-century Roman historian Josephus noted that the “Magogites” were the people whom the Greeks called “Scythians.”
The Scythians were a fierce, bloodthirsty civilization that settled north of the Baltic Sea in what is now Russia and the European republics of the former USSR. The first-century historian Josephus wrote in his classic work, Antiquities of the Jews, that the “Magogites” are the people that the Greeks refer to as “Scythians.”
Study the history of the ancient Scythians, and you will quickly discover that they were brutal and bloodthirsty people who settled north of the Black Sea in the area we now call Russia and the former Soviet republics.
In Moscow, the State Historical Museum on Red Square prominently displays numerous Scythian artifacts. Russia is proud of its Scythian tradition, which helps us pinpoint it as the modern country to which Ezekiel was referring.
